The documentary series “Reptiles of Iran” introduces, for the first time in the country, the scientific classification and diversity of reptile species native to Iran. Produced in 2012 by the Wildlife Pictures Institute, this series stands as one of the most comprehensive works ever made on Iran’s reptilian fauna.
The greatest achievement of this project was the discovery and documentation of two new species of monitor lizards in Iran and the world — a finding confirmed through genetic analyses, reflecting the deep scientific foundation behind the series.
The collection consists of seven episodes:
- 1. Monitor Lizards of Iran
- 2. Non-Venomous Snakes of Iran
- 3. Rear-Fanged and Venomous-Saliva Snakes of Iran
- 4. Venomous Snakes of Iran (Part I)
- 5. Venomous Snakes of Iran (Part II)
- 6. Agamids of Iran
- 7. An Overview of the Status of Reptiles in Iran
“Reptiles of Iran” was produced by Fathollah Amiri and directed by Farrokh Rastkar for IRIB Documentary Channel. In 2013, it received the Golden Statue for Best TV Documentary Series at the IRIB Jam-e-Jam Television Festival.
