“Ranger and Leopard” Wins Best Independent Film Award at the Green Screen International Wildlife Film Festival, Germany

The documentary film “Ranger and Leopard”, co-directed by Fathollah Amiri and Nima Asgari, has continued its international success by winning the Best Independent Film Award at the Green Screen International Wildlife Film Festival in Germany.

The Green Screen Festival, one of Europe’s largest annual wildlife events, was held from September 12 to 16 in northern Germany on the Baltic Sea coast. The festival hosted more than 20,000 visitors, including filmmakers, producers, and television network representatives from around the world.

The film “Ranger and Leopard”, representing Iran as its only entry in the festival, competed alongside works from Germany, Austria, France, Canada, the United States, Turkey, Japan, Russia, Ecuador, Brazil, Finland, India, Kenya, Australia, Serbia, Taiwan, Indonesia, Denmark, and Ireland, and ultimately won the Best Independent Film Award.

The documentary was screened on September 14, 2018, in the city of Eckernförde at Das Haus cinema, followed by a Q&A session with Fathollah Amiri, one of the film’s directors, which received an enthusiastic audience response.

Synopsis:

“Mohammadreza Helvani, a devoted ranger passionate about nature and wildlife, has never before captured any evidence of a leopard in his protected area. After receiving reports of the animal’s presence, he sets out to document the elusive predator himself.”

This documentary, produced by the IRIB Jame Jam Channel and the Wildlife Pictures Institute, has previously received numerous awards and honors, including:

  • Best Film in the Human and Nature Category at the prestigious Jackson Hole Wildlife Film Festival, USA.
  • First Prize at the Gran Paradiso Film Festival, Italy.
  • Best Directing Award at the 11th Cinema Verite Documentary Film Festival, Iran.
  • Special Jury Prize at the Green Image Film Festival, Japan, and participation in DCEFF (Washington), CinemAmbiente (Italy), Big Cats (New York), Silk Road (Ireland), IWFF (Montana), and VASSA (Finland).
