The documentary film “Vortex”, directed by Fathollah Amiri and co-produced by Dr. Bagher Nezami and Fathollah Amiri, was selected as Iran’s only representative among the finalists of the United Nations World Wildlife Day Film Showcase.

This global event is organized in collaboration with the Secretariat of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and the Jackson Wild Film Festival. For this edition, judges, professional filmmakers, and scientists from around the world selected the finalists from films submitted by various countries.

The selected films were officially screened at the United Nations Headquarters in New York on Tuesday, March 3, 2020 (Esfand 13, 1398), coinciding with the celebration of World Wildlife Day.

“Vortex” competed alongside productions from National Geographic, ARTE France, NDR Netherlands, SVT Sweden, BBC Nature, Nat Geo Wild, ORF, and France 3.

This film examines the critical status of the Asiatic cheetah in Iran, as well as the mismanagement and environmental threats endangering this rare species. It was produced by the Wildlife Pictures Institute with financial support from Meraj Airlines between 2014 and 2018.
